I love this laptop sleeve that you can have made out of your T-shirt. It’s out of my price range, but it’s a fun idea.

Will posted an interesting link on his Journerdism blog last week about how much money tech “geeks” can end up spending on gadgets and subscriptions. The answer, of course, is A LOT, but you can see for yourself here.

I’ve seen quite a few articles about the upcoming Google Wave. I’ve heard it will be available later this year.
I don’t completely understand it yet, but it’s how Google envisions e-mail if it had been invented today. It has many more real-time and interactive features, incorporating Google’s various tools. I’ve seen 80-minute demonstration videos floating around the Web, but I can’t bring myself to devote 80 minutes to seeing what this tool might do. Instead, I watched these eight short snippets, which demonstrate some of Wave’s features.

The Zen Habits blog, which is one of my favorite inspirational blogs I follow, had a post today about how Gmail can function as your entire productivity center. I knew about a lot of the features mentioned, but I did learn a few new things. If you have Gmail and want to consolidate some of your various tools (calendars, task-lists, docs, chat, Twitter and more), check out this post.

This Web Trends map is very cool. It’s modeled after a subway system with each “line” being a different topic. I used it to find some new sites I didn’t previously know about.

This video from The Onion imagines a Blockbuster video store as a museum, thanks to Netflix. (I was led to it by Journerdism.com.)

The overload of information and time-consuming properties of the Internet have taken over my life recently.
I’m still not sold on the usefulness of Twittter.
An article I saw recently has reinforced my feelings that Twitter would end up just wasting my time.
Other forms of social media (mainly Facebook, but also MySpace and others) already take up a large chunk of my time. If you’re suspicious of social media’s time consumption or wonder if it would fit into your life at all, you might want to check out this article, which looks at whether “real people” have time to spend on social media sites (Facebook, Twitter, MySpace, etc.).
On the topic of minimal time and the Internet, I thought this article about web content conservation was interesting. It talks about recycling web content (something I’m attempting to do with this post) as opposed to creating new web “trash.”

I’m late to this party, and I don’t want you to miss out on it. Have you heard of RSS feeds? Have you heard of Google Reader? It doesn’t matter whether you’re young or old, whether you use the Internet a little or a lot. You can benefit from this.
1) If you aren’t familiar with RSS feeds or Google Reader, check out this video from The Common Craft Show. (I recommend this series if you want to know more about other types of new technology, too. They have videos on many topics, including Facebook, Twitter, Digg, etc. Lee and Sachi LeFever do a great job of making informative videos that are fun to watch.)
2) Go to Google Reader. (Other sites that have similar capabilities are www.bloglines.com, www.newsgator.com and My Yahoo!)
3) Subscribe to your favorite news sites, blogs, etc. For more ideas on organizing your subscriptions, check out my friend Andrew’s recent post on RSS feeds.
Now, instead of checking for updates on multiple blogs and news sites each day, you go to one page and can see news headlines and new posts from each site you choose.
You’ll wonder how you survived so long without this!
