This is my favorite find of the week (even though it was posted a few years ago). A very adorable little boy talking about his crush. I’ve seriously watched it five times already.

How did I miss this?
In last weekend’s Washington Post magazine, Gene Weingarten’s column referenced Google’s NGram viewer. I had never heard of it, but this viewer could provide hours of fun.
In Weingarten’s words, the tool “lets you see, on a timeline graph, the comparative popularity of any two or more words, phrases or names, judged by the frequency of their mentions in the millions of English language books Google has digitized.”
Genius!
Check it out — but only when you have a couple hours to spare because it’s addictive.

A British study found that women spend more time getting ready for work on Monday mornings than other days, with the time decreasing as the week goes along.
I definitely don’t think I fit in with what this study found, but I thought it was interesting to read.

One in five divorce petitions cites Facebook.
I heard this today on NPR’s “Wait, Wait, Don’t Tell Me” and then looked it up. According to an article in U.K.’s Telegraph (and other news sources), lawyers say social networking sites make it easier for spouses to cheat, renew old flames or meet new flames.
I suppose it’s nothing surprising, but the statistic is pretty scary considering almost all of my generation is currently on such sites. What does this mean for our chances of success?

If you have a little extra online time, you should check out the winners and finalists for the Webby Awards. Websites win the awards based on design, usability, functionality, etc.
As I was looking through the list, I found this Economist link. Since my paper is owned by the Economist Group, I checked it out. And then I realized it was a very unusual and very cool site. I think the concept of showing and explaining individuals’ thinking spaces is a good one. And the rotating, angled, connected photos are really cool.

I found this post about Facebook through Journerdism. The most interesting part:
Also, to the surprise of many, Facebook is not just the privilege of tech-savvy kids — the college and post-college folks (18- to 24-yearolds), which the site originally aimed to target, now only account for less than 25 percent of total users. The fastest-growing demographic group is women age of 55 and older, up 175 percent since September 2008.
I guess Facebook is the new knitting club for women? A good place to hear and share gossip?

One of the blogs I follow, Get Rich Slowly, had a guest post recently about how people have different paths to happiness.
In short, the writer says that people often think there’s one path to finding happiness, so they try to just follow that path step by step instead of doing what is right for them at the time.
I also recently began reading “Eat, Pray, Love” by Elizabeth Gilbert. I’ve seen a bit of a similar theme in the beginning part of the book. Gilbert struggles in her marriage for many reasons, among them the feeling that she SHOULD want a child after age 30 even though she realizes she doesn’t. That’s obviously the right path or timing for some people, but as the discovers it isn’t right for her and she explores other paths for her happiness.

An interesting post I found via Journerdism that looks at studies about the days and times the most people use Facebook and Twitter.
